A Message from the Current Members of the Veritones

The Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones unequivocally stand in solidarity with Black communities and the Black Lives Matter movement. We add our names to the millions of people across the country and around the world demanding long overdue justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless other Black people murdered in the streets of their cities and in their homes. We condemn police brutality and support the courageous activist leaders daring to envision a better future, a future in which Black Americans’ human rights and civil liberties are not up for debate.

As an established organization on Harvard’s campus, we recognize that we have the responsibility to support our Black friends and peers. As students at one of the oldest and most well-endowed institutions in the world, we recognize that we have benefited from societal structures that were designed to marginalize and oppress Black people. We cannot sit idly by and allow injustice to continue.
The music industry has an ongoing history of appropriation, exploitation, and exclusion of Black artists and Black culture. As musicians, especially musicians who primarily perform covers of other artists’ songs, we risk defaulting to that pattern if we fail to work actively against the industry’s current structure. A commitment to anti-racism within the Veritones means working to make our audition process and group culture maximally inclusive, and to keep talking about how to best combat these forces within our discipline.

Sadly, as our modified spring jam was performed in an empty theater due to concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic, we were not able to collect ticket revenue and are not currently in the financial position to support a matching campaign. As individuals, we are still donating as we are able, and we pledge to continue to use our public platform to promote education and action relating to Black liberation and to be mindful of all other ways we can help. In addition, while we encourage you to spend your streaming time listening to music written, produced, and performed by Black artists, we know that not all of our listeners will see this message or bear this sentiment in mind; therefore, we commit to donating our next three months of streaming revenue, with half going to Black Visions Collective and half going to Black Table Arts.

The Veritones pride ourselves on Veri-love, a version of love which forges powerful bonds between the members of our community, past and present. But our community extends beyond the singers in our group: We are members of the Harvard community, and of the American community. As members of these communities, we must heed this call to action.

Black Lives Matter.

In solidarity,
The Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones

Our Music

The Veritones perform a large variety of music, from Billboard Hot 100 hits of today to classics of the past. Our songs are chosen by democratic suggestion and vote by all our members, allowing every member to have a say in the style of our group.

Our most recent songs include hits like "Somebody to Love" by OneRepublic, "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, and "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer. We also maintain classic Veritones songs like "Come To My Window" by Melissa Etheridge and "Takin' It To the Streets" by the Doobie Brothers. Each iteration of our group molds a new sound and style!

You can find a full list of our music on our repertoire page.

Our Group

The Veritones are a diverse and dynamic group, with people from all walks of life with all different interests. The one thing that brings us all together is our music and our love for the group.

Being a Veritone means being part of the Veri-family, for life, even as an alumnus. We share moments in and out of rehearsal and on and off campus, from learning our doos and dahs together to hanging out during our annual summer tour to tailgating the Harvard-Yale football game as a group.

You can keep up with more of our shenanigans on our social media @Veritones. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter and like our Facebook page!

Our Performances

The Veritones perform year round and have sung for audiences all around the United States. We do one concert per semester in the historic Sanders Theater at Harvard, debuting our new music for each semester, as well as performing gigs throughout the year around the Cambridge-Boston area, ranging from singing telegrams to fundraisers to school events to private parties. We also perform when we travel for our mini tours during the year and on our annual summer tour.

In addition, we compete each year at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and work on projects such as recording for albums and shooting music videos.
